Code of Conduct

Purpose: The Code of Conduct seeks to promote and strengthen the good reputation of the AJAX Amateur Football Club, the VAFA and Maccabi Victoria by establishing standards of performance and behavior for Players, Coaches, Officials and Supporters.

 

PLAYERS

Play by and adhere to the rules as determined by the VAFA.

Value safety, fair play and welfare above personal prestige and gain.

Accept the authority of all umpires and game officials.

Keep up with all rules of the sport as listed in the VAFA handbook.

NEVER argue with umpires. If you disagree, have your captain approach the umpire during a break or after the match.

NEVER use foul language. Audible obscenities can result in removal from the game.

Control your temper. Verbal abuse of umpires, officials or other players is not acceptable or permitted behavior in any sport.

Do not question the actions of an umpire. He will not change his decision.

Be a good sport.

Treat all participants in your sport, as you would like to be treated.

Always co-operate with your coach and team-mates.

Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, race, religion, colour or cultural background. Vilification will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

 

COACHES

Role model appropriate behaviour by acting with integrity and professionalism. Remember that a coach is likely to have the greatest influence on the behaviour of players and spectators.

Ensure that the time players spend with you is a positive experience.

Always operate within the rules and spirit of the game, teaching your players to do the same.

Be responsible for decisions and the consequence of actions having the utmost regard for high standards.

Do not tolerate behaviour that may incite players and spectators against any on field officials or public display of displeasure.

Control your temper and do not sledge.

Obtain appropriate qualifications and keep up with the latest coaching practices and rules of the sport.

Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, race, religion, colour or cultural background. Vilification will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

 

OFFICIALS

Give all people equal opportunities to participate.

Create opportunities for people to participate in all facets of the game (players, coaches, umpires, officials etc).

Set the example by providing Code of Behavior sheets to all participants.

Ensure appropriate rules and regulations are implemented that emphasizes fair play and sportsmanship.

Make it clear to all members of the club that abuse of any person in any way is unacceptable and will result in disciplinary action.

Be responsible for the conduct of players, supporters and officials.

Accept responsibility for the safety and welfare of players, umpires and officials above all else.

 

SPECTATORS

Appreciate that people participate in sport for their enjoyment and benefit, not necessarily yours.

Respect the decisions of umpires and officials and encourage players to do so.

Applaud good performances from individuals and the team.

Never ridicule players for making mistakes. Positive comments are motivational.

Condemn the use of violence in any form whether it is by spectators, officials, players or coaches.

Do not use foul language, sledge or harass opposition players, coaches, umpires or officials.

Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, race, religion, colour or cultural background. Vilification will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

 

Discipline:

It is the aim of the AJAX Amateur Football Club Inc. to ensure that all players, coaches, officials and supporters adhere to the principles and standards set out in this Code.

Any breaches of the Code of Conduct will be dealt with by the Executive Committee of the AJAX Amateur Football Club and if deemed appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. We will not allow the good name and standing of the AJAX Amateur Football Club to be denigrated in any way.

 

Values

The Ajax Football Club (Senior and Junior) aims to provide an opportunity for the Jewish youth of Melbourne to participate in Australian Rules Football and enhave their health and well being through organised sport. The Club will at all time endeavour to provide for the health, welfare and well being of its players, supporters and spectators. This aim will be achieved by promoting and developing the following values and objectives:

  • A sense of social, community and Jewish values.
  • An environment to nurture the physical and mental development of our youth.
  • Respect for officials, opposition players and supporters.
  • The virtues of fair and disciplined play.
  • Provide opportunities for all players according to their level of ability.

Our aims will be realised by providing as far as reasonable:

  • Competent coaches and assistants.
  • Adequate facilities, amenities and equipment.
  • Supervised social functions encouraging family participation.
  • Regular communication and consultation with players and parents.
  • Active leadership and management of the Club.

All players, coaches, officials, parents, supporters and committee members have a responsibility at all times when representing the Ajax Football Club (Senior and Junior) to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner consistent with these values

The Club will be an active member of the VAFA, SMJFL and Maccabi Victoria.
