Fisher’s Ferocious Fight to Fifty
WOMEN’s Jewish footy pioneer Chelsea Fisher brought up an emotional milestone last Sunday, becoming AJAX’s first female player to reach 50 games.
It was a bittersweet occasion for the Jackettes’ captain who has made the tough call to end her season early, after bravely playing through osteitis pubis for the past 18 months.
"Stopping playing for the season was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make, and it came with a lot of tears and pain ... I'll miss running out with the girls but I'm looking forward to being back and better in 2019," Fisher told The AJN.
The wear and tear of footy eventually caught up with the 23-year-old, whose ferocious style earned her the nickname “bulldog".
In 2014, Fisher approached AJAX with the idea of creaNng the club’s first ever women’s team, and courtesy of her vision and commitment to empowering young Jewish women through sport, the Jackettes have kicked countless goals on and off the field.
Fisher has this year taken the coaching reigns of the AJAX Junior Football Club's U14 girls team and she believes that "the future is bright for Jewish women and girls in footy”.
